Volunteering Throughout The Year:
Our needs for volunteers are great all of the time. Hunger and hopelessness strike 365 days per year. Whatever your gifts, your talents and your availability, we can use you all of the time.   Holiday Help & Special Events: The holidays are times when we are most aware of the plight of the less fortunate. Many people and organizations want to contribute their time and efforts at Christmas and Thanksgiving. At such times we may not be able to accommodate all those who want to help, so please call ahead of time to see what our volunteer needs are. Or, you can volunteer throughout the year!!

    CHRISTMAS DAY (DINNER)             Schedule:             Set-Up: 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.      Dinner Service: 11:00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.      Clean Up: 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

CHRISTMAS Adopt-a-Family - Individuals, groups, or organizations may adopt families who have applied for holiday baskets/gifts. Holiday baskets generally include a food basket that includes food for a holiday meal and toys and/or clothing items for the children. Holiday baskets/gifts may be delivered directly to the families’ homes or to the Center for distribution. To adopt a family call (714) 547-4073 for details.

 Adopt-a-Senior - Individuals, groups, or organizations may “adopt” Senior citizens (age 62 or older) who have applied for holiday baskets/gifts. Holiday baskets generally include a food basket that includes food for a holiday meal and gifts suitable for the elderly. Holiday baskets/gifts may be delivered directly to seniors’ homes or to the Center for distribution. To adopt a senior call (714) 547-4073 for details.

 Children’s Party with Santa -  @ Second Baptist Church, 4300 Westminster Ave Santa Ana. Volunteers wrap gifts, escort children to see Santa and provide staff assistance to entertain children at the party. On average, we entertain more than 500 children between the ages of one month and 12 years of age. Each child receives a toy and Christmas treats during the party.

  Gift Wrapping - Individuals or groups may volunteer to wrap toys and gift items for distribution to families and children during the Christmas party. We also wrap toys on the day of the Christmas party.

ADMINSTRATIVE/CLERICAL:

Reception –greets guests and clients; assists clients with any paperwork before interviews. (Days and times-flexible.)

Client Follow-up Interviews – conducts telephone interviews with clients who have received services to determine current status. (Days and times-flexible.)

Data Input – inputs data from client intake forms into a specialized client tracking program. (Days and times-flexible.)

DIRECT CLIENT SERVICES:

Shower Monitorcontrols the flow of clients using the showers; maintains a log of the services to provide resource data. (Days and times –TBD)

Laundry Monitorcontrols the use of laundry facilities; monitors equipment and supplies to ensure proper usage; maintains a log of services to provide resource data. (Days and times –TBD)

 Food Distribution  assists case manager and outreach worker distribute grocery bags on distribution days: Monday, Wednesday: 10:00am – 12:00pm; and 2nd and 4th Saturday: 10:00am – 11:00am

Clothing Distribution assists case manager and outreach worker distribute grocery bags on distribution days: Monday, Wednesday: 10:00am – 12:00pm and 2nd and 4th Saturday: 10:00am – 11:00 a.m.

Meal Serviceassist staff prepare and serve meals, Monday thru Friday: Breakfast - 8:00am; Lunch – 12:00pm; Saturday: Breakfast - 8:00am; Lunch – 12:00pm; Dinner – 4:00 pm; Sunday: Breakfast - 8:00am; Lunch – 1:00pm; Dinner – 4:00 pm

Children’s Activities - assist staff with children’s activities and parties throughout the year and on Easter and Halloween for which staff relies on volunteers’ participation.

Volunteer Through Your Church: Many churches throughout Orange County provide breakfast or lunch one day per month every day of the year. Ask your pastor whether your church participates. If not, contact the Center to see if monthly serving dates are available.

Volunteer Through Your High School: Many schools throughout Orange County offer students a chance to get involved in charity work. Ask your school counselor whether your school participates. If not, contact the Center to see if monthly serving dates are available.

Through Your Community Organization: Many community organizations such as Sertoma and Boy Scouts of America have contributed their time and skills to SWCC to accomplish specific projects to meet specific needs. Call our Director to find out how you and your organization can help.
